ในบรรดาสิ่งที่บันทึกลงปาปิรุสในสมัยราชอาณาจักรใหม่ สิ่งที่คนรู้จักมากที่สุดก็คงหนีไม่พ้น The Book of the Dead ทั้งที่จริงมันยังมี The Book of ... อีกหลายคัมภีร์ ประกอบด้วย The Book of the Amduat, The Book of Gates, The Book of Caverns, The Book of the Earth, The Book of the Heaven ซึ่ง Book of Heaven นี้แบ่งออกเป็น The Book of the Day, The Book of the Night, The Book of Nut, The Book of  Heavenly Cow แต่ที่สำคัญ Book of... ที่กล่าวมานี้ ไม่ได้บันทึกไว้ใน Papyrus แต่ว่าจะจารึกไว้ในผนังสุสาน หรือโลงศพแทน ซึ่งส่วนมากจะใช้โดยฟาโรห์ 

แต่บรรดา The Book of... พวกนี้คราวนี้ยังไม่ว่างไปค้นรายละเอียดให้ เอารูปจาก The Book of the Dead ไปชมกันก่อนแล้วกัน โดยรวบรวมจาก Papyrus of Ani (รูปที่ 11,13,16,18) , Papyrus of Hunefer และ Papyrus ของคนอื่นๆ

คนอียิปต์โบราณไม่ได้เรียก The Book of the Dead ว่า "คัมภีร์มรณะ" แต่เรียกว่า 'Coming Forth by Day' ภาษาอียิปต์โบราณว่า 'prt m hrw' (Peret Em Heru) หมายถึง "การเดินทางในเวลากลางวัน"
